Miguel Arteta is to direct Elle Fanning in the movie adaptation of Jennifer Niven’s YA novel, All the Bright Places.
Niven will write the movie’s script, with Demarest Media on board to finance and produce the picture alongside Mazur/Kaplan, who brought the package to them. Production is slated to begin in Spring 2016.
Fanning will play the the role of Violet in the love story about a girl who learns to live from a boy who intends to die. Arteta most recently directed Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, and earlier lensed Cedar Rapids and Youth in Revolt.
Niven said Monday in a statement, “All the Bright Places is a very personal story for me. Mazur/Kaplan, Miguel, and Demarest Media have given the book and me the most wonderfully supportive, creative home, and they are as invested in Finch and Violet as I am.” [Source]

The Weinstein Co. has given an awards-season release date of September 18 for transgender drama “Three Generations,” starring Naomi Watts, Elle Fanning and Susan Sarandon.

TWC won the bidding at the Cannes Film Festival last month after buyers were shown a promo reel of the project, directed by Gaby Dellal from Nikole Beckwith’s script. TWC paid $6 million for U.S. rights with a minimum 500-screen commitment.

Fanning plays a New York teenager seeking to transition from female to male. Watts portrays her mother and Sarandon is her lesbian grandmother.

Producers are Big Beach’s Marc Turtletaub and Peter Saraf, along with Dorothy Berwin. Big Beach also financed “Three Generations.” [Source]

Elle Fanning & Diego Luna Topline Sundance-Seeded Sci-Fi Pic ‘IO’

Posted by admin with No Comments

Elle Fanning and Diego Luna have joined the cast of Clay Jeter’s sci-fi pic IO, a project that was developed at the Sundance Institute’s Writers Lab and Sundance Catalyst Forum. Jeter, who made the 2011 Sundance Film Festival pic Jess + Moss, wrote the script with Will Basanta and Charles Spano.

The character-driven IO, slated to begin production sometime this year, tells the story of a girl’s coming of age while examining the dangers of humanity’s current relationship with the planet. Fanning will play the teen surviving as one of the last people on an abandoned post-cataclysmic Earth, who is racing to find a cure for her poisoned home world before the last shuttle off the planet to the distant human space colony leaves her stranded. Luna will play a complicated and mysterious refugee on his way to the shuttle launch who makes her question whether she can really alter Earth’s fate.

“We are so excited for Elle to bring her charisma and fearlessness to the demanding role of the tragically obsessed idealist Sam,” said Jeter. “And Diego’s chameleon-like versatility makes him a perfect choice for the secretive and enigmatic Micah. I’m really looking forward to a creative collaboration with these incredibly talented and committed actors to bring the characters of IO to life.” Read the rest of this entry »
